Look, I want to do things correctly just as much as anybody on this site, but when the time for handing out punish does arise, I want to it done fairly and for the right reasons. If punishment is deserved, then do it with regards to correcting the problem as well as improving the understanding and prospectives of those who committed the acts.

But do not roll completely over from the start. Do not go well beyond in order to grandstand, while making a showy public statement that does not one thing to improve the actual situation, much less the futures of those involved. We can do things right, and completely within the rules, without having this need/obsession that we must go to such extremes in order to make amends.

Personally, I am really tiring of these boastful back-slapping sessions for going beyond the requirements, when no one requires it of us, or is even asking for it. Then later, when things aren't going as expected, some of the same folks who were boasting earlier are left scratching their heads, and totally confused as to where it all went awry.

I've been a State fan each and every of the years you remember, redfreda. The days of Larry Montieth and grandiose self-flagellation have passed, IMO.

H, you're going to have to follow me closely, read between the lines a little maybe, because I probably cannot properly sum up what I'm about to say here. What I am saying is that in the years well beyond the time of Larry Monteith, the administration at NC State has repeatedly shown a propensity to err on the side of caution, and to place their first priority, to stand steadfastly by, the "safest" option available. I can site examples, and they are much more recent then the days of Larry Monteith, but come on, do I really have to?

Point is, NC State has (and fairly recently at that) shown that if there is a "safest" option out there, whether or not they have done due diligence to make certain that it's really the best, then many more times than not, that's exactly the button that they are going to rush to push.

Given her relationship with Gary Williams and overall reputation as a hard charger, I'm not sure Debbie Yow was considered a truly safe choice, redfreda. Gottfried, fired in mid-season by his alma mater, probably wasn't either.

Again H, you are speaking of very recent changes. Your examples are valid though, mainly the Debbie Yow one. So you're saying that you believe, that after decade upon decade, and all of a sudden, there is nothing left involving those influences in Raleigh?

Conservative school and conservative town and always will be. Scandals will always be punished though I see a renewed appreciation for the good excellence in athletics can bring too.
