    Recruits Vs Fans

So When it comes to college basketball, We have some of the most passionate fans out here. we are without a doubt an absolutely rabid fan base. and i love it. BUT i've never seen Wolfpackers Do (thank god we haven't either) or say the things i've seen this year with College Basketball recruits. When Oriakhi Chose Mizzou, He was Blasted with hate Tweets from UK, Unconn, and UNC. stuff ranging from you suck, to traitor, to even i hope you blow out you Knee/acl. It got really bad. Now Top ten 2013 Recruit Troy Williams Was supposed to choose in between UK and UNC this week. He woke up on his announcement day and tweeted that he was gonna postpone his decision. Then a UNC "fan" Tweeted him saying if He didn't choose UNC He was gonna burn his house down. WHAT? How is this even acceptable behavior? Now many people have suggested that High School Athletes not be allowed on twitter. But that's not fair to them? What did they do? I would say Hold school accountable but on an national level that would work because there are A LOT of non-alumni fans (Me here) so we can't do that because besides being a fan most of then have no affiliation with the school. so How do you even stop something like that?

You can't really do much about it. As a Pack fan, I could pose as a UK or Duke fan and tweet Amile that he sucks and we don't want him to try and sway him. I'm sure there are many people that go on there to pose as an opposing fan and say things to recruits like they're not good enough for their team or things of that nature.

Yea i was thinking about that. Idk The whole Oriakhi thing made me real sick because people were wishing him actual harm like they were hoping he blew his knee out and some said i hop your plane crashes on the way to mizzou. i was like wow. But The Troy williams thing is an actual threat. and i feel like that can't be tolerated.

I think that these kids don't know what they are getting into when they open up/maintain a Twitter account, coupled with their recruiting rankings shooting into the national spotlight. I would advise any Top-100 recruit to disband their Twitter and FaceBook accounts. But, there is nobody to enforce that general guideline.

The law, however, can track down the a-hole that threatened to burn down the house of a 17 year old kid. UNC fans are getting out of control and they need to be called out on it. I think we all remember the 100's of comments that UNC fans made after the tournament game that ended with Marshall's wrist injury. They called the player that fouled Kendall every name in the book, and then some.

The world of social media gives idiots an outlet to express their idiocy. There are plenty of expamples of people who have keyboards that should have their fingers chopped off. Just look at any Yahoo! article's comments section. Look at the WRALSportsfan monkey boards. It won't take long to identify these people. Sports figures are not immune. They can learn to accept it or they can shut down their accounts. But, the threats need to be pursued through the legal system.

I agree with you and if i was a parent with a top 100 recruit as a kid he wouldn't have a twitter, but Banning it form them idk always seems kinda like punishing the players for the fan's idiocy and idk that just doesn't feel right.

it's my job as a parent to protect my kids reasonably. they don't have to like it or think it's fair. banning them from using it if they can't handle it properly is ok. punishing and protecting are 2 totally different things. my kids are both in their early 20's but they still, for the time being, live with us. i still have the same rules. don't like it? there are other places to live. and yes, i charge them rent. i'm a mean daddy!

If you don't teach 'em, they'll learn life's lessons from somebody with a lot less sense.

I didn't mean the parents doing it. i meant It as an Actual Rule, rule.

yeah, i know. it's kindof like the seat-belt laws meant to punish you for not being smart enough to protect yourself.

I dubbed the Internet "a playground for Morons" 12 years ago after a customer's employee told me she is on the chat rooms 10 hrs a day. Twitter, facebook, etc have not changed my mind.

Nice, who would want to play for a fan base like that? I would be ashamed to call myself a UK fan.

Every major program out there has "those", kind of um, "fans."

Hope this (BAD) example works as a little reminder.

I just have to say that is some sad stuff to see that people would say those kind of things to an 18 year old kid because he didn't pick the college that they root for. I hope whatever team he chooses plays UK and whoops on them. The one good thing about haters is that they provide alot of motivation.
