Virus - Please Take This Seriously

I mentioned a few days ago I got a message from Norton that it blocked an attack while I was on this website. Last night I went to the 2012 Football Recruiting thread and whammo! A nasty virus got though. It pretended to be detecting other viruses, and just kept spreading. It was also able to mimic Norton to the point I couldn't tell what was real and what was fake. I also believe a lot of my personal information was compromised. I spent a good portion of today changing passwords, cancelling credit cards, contacting my bank, deleting files, backing files up to external discs, etc.

I just went to the same 2012 football recruiting thread (stupid, I know) and immediately got another message from Norton that it blocked an attack.

Please make sure your anti virus software applications are up to date.

We do take this seriously, however we've run test after test and the only thing we find is activity from our ad networks. As you likely know, internet ads target the individual and track where you go. That's how they show ads that relate to you.

We only use ad companies that are completely established and are affiliated with companies we all know are legit.

i was having the same problem, pi. i haven't had ANY ad problems since i got rid of the the virus, or more specifically, root kit virus. i know your guys are experts and all and i'm just a geek not a computer geek, but root kit viruses normally don't show up on anti-virus scans because they are in hidden files. you have go in and tell the computer to show hidden files long enough to run something like tdsskiller, run it, clean it, and change it back. my avg actually picked it up, first. tdsskiller will get rid all of it.

Hmmm, I just came on this thread, got a notice from "Norton" that a virus had been detected right here. Being the moron that I am, I hit the button that said it would get rid of it. It did something??? But what, I do not have the foggiest??? I don't know anything about this crapola, so am I screwed?

it probably quarantined it to the virus vault, so no worries. be careful, though, norton is notorious for letting viruses through. i prefer avg free from www.filehippo.com, i also have malwarebytes, also free. the most important thing is to do automatic updates on your antivirus programs.

You guy's are not alone. I was hit so hard that I had to carry my computer to our tech support group and they kept it for the day. I most certainly had a virus, however I was told that they were able to remove it. Only problem is that now I feel like my lap top is not secure and of course our tech group stated that it simply comes with the territory of being online. WOW, don't I feel better.

Pretty sure I got on a nasty one from here too. My malwarebytes keeps catching stuff when I visit here. I'd hate to have to quit visiting this site.
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.

I've never had a problem from here. I have McAfee(it came with the comp last year) and it is up to date. People's programs can be misreading things on the site(mainly the ads) and saying that there is a virus. This is actually fairly prevalent, as I see this a lot when I read a few anti-virus forums lately.
