In a recent interview, it sounds like commit ATH Lakeith Walls has been told that he will get an opportunity to play running back first for us, and if that doesn't pan out, he will be more than likely placed at LB.
Target DB/S Jarnor Jones will also officially visit us for this weekend's game. Jones is a recently developed phenomenon on the recruiting trail. 6'4", 190, 4.49 40 yd. Not rated on rivals yet, 2* S on scout, NR on ESPN yet either.
Attends Lithonia HS in GA. He is currently committed to Middle Tennessee State, but we have been going after him hard for the last several weeks.

Thanks Packman couldnt find anything on Jones and Wolfpacker was no help.
Jarnor Jones is a really interesting guy. He is a great athlete and has been listed anywhere from 6'0 to 6'5 depending on whether you are looking at basketball or football info. 6'3 is probably the most realistic, which is good size for a safety, but not really a small forward. This guy considered himself a basketball player and committed to MTSU more for basketball, but to also play football. However he has really blown up this season in football and is starting to realize that is where his future may really be. He is also getting heavy interest from GT and already also has an offer from Maryland. We are looking to take one more DB in this class and the staff really likes this guy.

Ok so wait...is he a jump ball wide receiver or a big cover db?
i'm sorry. i just reread the scouting report at the top.
Packman, is Whitehead still coming with Jones?
Commit QB James Summers and Greensboro Page win again 40-26. Page was down by 20 points and did not allow Butler to score in the second half. Summers ran for 131 and 3 TDs, threw for 2 TDs, and even had an interception on defense. Butler threw for over 400 yards but Page forced four turnovers in the second half to seal the game. Summers and Page play at home Friday night against Mallard Creek for the 4-A West Regional final. Both teams are undefeated going into Friday night's game.
According to rivals, Whitehead is still coming to visit this weekend, but is listed as having "low interest" in us. He is a defensive end, which we have already gotten two in this year's class. This does not mean that we would not take another one, but it is also worth mentioning that he has only had one other official visit this season (to UNC in September).
I personally think that our staff likes Owino and McAlister a little bit more than Whitehead at DE even though each of them have very comparable measureables. Whitehead has played some LB in the past, so we might be looking at him at LB instead of DE.
Here is some film to compare them:

To recap, expected visitors this weekend are: DB/S Jarnor Jones, DE/LB Kenderius Whitehead, and RB Danny Dillard. I would not be surprised to see several more official visitors today since it is the last marquee matchup of this season at home that the recruits would want to see.
I will have a full report on today's visitors once I get back from Raleigh tonight. GO PACK!
TONS of recruits in the house tonight. It was the busiest that I had seen all season, as I thought it would be. Lots of big bodies in the area.
Lots of commits in the house: Marchez Coates, James Summers, K'Hadree Hooker, David Grinnage, Josh Sessoms.
Jarnor Jones was definitely in the house. Target DE Desmond Owino was also there. Lots of other recruits that I did not know that I am in the process of looking up. I did not see Danny Dillard or Whitehead in front of Murphy, but that does not mean that they were not there.
Other visitors at tonight's game included
2012: James Ward (plays for Deland HS in FL) - Other than this, I cannot find a lot of information about him
2013: DE Lewis Neal, OL Connor O'Shea from VA, QB Tra'Von Chapman
On a lighter note, I almost ran right into Commit TE David Grinnage while walking back to my seat. He is a very big guy. Every bit of 6'5" and filled out already.

Another visitor at tonight's game was OL Jonathan McLaughlin from Mauldin HS in SC. Sounds like he does not have a current offer from us, but he thinks that we may offer sometime soon. McLaughlin is 6'4", 288, a 3* recruit on rivals and scout, and the rivals' #25 overall recruit from the state of SC.
Here's a highlight film of McLaughlin in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3hg3skFuDo
If you're a defensive player trying to pick a college, could you have been any more impressed than what you saw in Raleigh today? This had to help recruiting. Not only good, but just a fun way to play. Flying all over the field, tackles for loss, sacks, forced fumbles and picks.
nc state recruiter was in edenton friday night for the edenton-tarboro game,he was there to see todd gurley(3 star athlete), nc and georgia are the frontrunners according to what i heard being said,he was totally shutdown, and really didnt impress me at all
I've heard Gurley is a better defensive prospect than RB, but schools will recruit him as a RB and possibly convert him after a year or so on campus.
does state have any 4 star players considering them or committed?
According to ESPN, Summers is a 4*, and that's it. Scout says no, as does Rivals. That's on committed. As to considering, there are a few, at least listing us. Doubtful we are really high up though.
It has been confirmed that OL Jonathan McLaughlin and DE Kenderius Whitehead made a trip to Raleigh this past weekend on official visits by Phil Kornblut.
Here are links to articles about both of them that appeared in the goupstate.com newspaper.

Whitehead: http://www.goupstate.com/article/201...982/-1/PSPORTS
Apparently Target DT JJ Patterson from
NC was also in the house on Saturday. He is a current Hole commit, but was very high on us before this season started. We might just have a chance with him after all. Hopefully he saw that our DLine works hard on every play, don't throw punches, and that we play with good sportsmanship.
We were actually leading for Patterson from last season through summer camps. However, I do not think that we have a pressing need to take another DT in this year's class unless one of the other ones are not going to qualify.
Also, don't get your hopes up for one time Pack commit DE Fre'shad Hunter. Evidently something has transpired on the recruiting trail that has led us away from him. Not sure if it is grades or not, but more than likely we will probably never see him in a Pack uniform.
Just to give everyone a heads up, we only have 4-5 scholarships remaining at the most unless the time has some sort of attrition between now and NSD in February.
A couple more interesting things in the news category for recruiting purposes, FB Taylor Gentry and LB Sterling Lucas have applied for medical hardship waivers so they could play another year. Gentry's is probably not going to happen, Lucas will get his because he did not play at all this year. (Gentry played in 5 games and has already redshirted while he has been at State). If Lucas indeed gets his waiver, that will reduce us a scholarship in our overall numbers for next year.
According to scout, Target ATH/RB Todd Gurley has set up an official visit to see us in action this weekend against Maryland. This will be Todd Gurley's second visit to see us in action this month. We are still in it for him, but at this point I would think that it would be nothing more than a long shot (say 20-25% at the best).
The best I can figure, we have gotten our RB prospects for this year's class and Gurley would more than likely play another position for us, like safety, CB, or maybe even WR.
Thanks for the update, packman687.
Glad to see so many recruits here last weekend though can't help but wonder if one or two were also watching Clemson. If so, they sure got an eyeful.
BTW, Clemson is charging this off to looking past us to their next two games. Ron Morris of The State says our game was meaningless to Clemson. I guess they must be in the national title conversation every year then because they sure took themselves out of it (as a highly ranked one loss team) by being blown out by the Wolfpack.
Howler
In all likelihood, Clemson's loss probably didn't really hurt them. I think they would have been a longshot for the BCS championship game anyway. They've got the division wrapped up and their rivals are coming up. Just like for us...if we take care of business against Maryland, we're bowl eligible and the BC loss didn't really hurt us in the end. But also just like us...losing games you have no business losing is what keeps you from being a championship caliber program...stop making excuses.
Looks like Quincy McKinney is in the fold per Rivals. Welcome aboard big fella!
^
McKinney is a big get. Not only physically, but also as far as talent. 6'3", 315. 3* on rivals (their #9 overall prep player in the country), 3* on scout, 3* on ESPN (on last year's scale he was a 78 overall).
Originally committed to South Carolina out of HS.
Here is ESPN's evaluation of him from last year: "Mckinney is a tough guy with good upper body playing strength along with an aggressive finishing attitude. Plays tackle however his size and athleticism are better suited for the offensive guard position at the major level of competition."
Chief recruiters for McKinney were Keith Willis and Jim Bridge. He is being recruited to play OG for us.
It should be worth mentioning that Keith Willis' only targeted player left that we have a chance to get is Todd Gurley.
Should be very interesting to see how our last three to four spots shake out. I would say that we stand a very good chance to get Abner Logan, Desmond Owino and Jarnor Jones. Whitehead, Spence, and Gurley would be super nice, but I am not foreseeing any of them wearing Red and White next year.
Hmm... could it be TOB's recruiting is picking up somewhat, and we have a shot at winning eight games this year, as well?
If TOB gets rid of Archer and/or Bible, then we're talking about a trifecta. I would have to support keeping TOB a little longer with these new factors.
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.

Packman687 or others, please:
I really like what I see in James Summers but, now that his stock is rising, can't help but wonder if we'll see him on signing day. This kid looks really attractive to me but can he possibly thrive in a TOB/Dana Bible offense?
Howler
H, in light of the whole Penn State thing, "This kid looks really attractive to me" may not be the best choice of words.
Sorry, I just made a really bad joke about a horrible situation, but it couldn't be helped.
Shooter, if it truly "couldn't be helped", please seek professional counseling immediately.
And stay away from elementary schools !!

Haha, thank you, I will. On both counts.
Howler, Summers has been stead fast to the program (he loves NC State) for some time now and has indicated in the past he wasn't interested in anyone else. However, if one of the consistent upper echelon programs came a callin' who knows what would happen, we are afterall talking about 17-18 year old kids.
Thanks, Seapack89. I just hope we don't have some idiotic idea of turning this guy into a safety or other position. He certainly looks to this untrained eye a young man who could develop into a major college QB in some variant of an option system.

Add: RW? If you bring redfreda into this discussion, Killer, I will never forgive you.

kind of like russell wilson?
Well, Summers is taller, anywhere from 6'1-6'2, versus RW's LISTED 5'11(probably 5'9, 5'10) and he might even be 6'3-6'4 when he it is all said and done. He is also a bit heavier, not much, maybe only 10lbs, but RW never really seemed to gain anything, probably due to baseball. Summers is football only(I think), so he will be able to devote more time to the gym(I hope).
